GPSBOXPLUS Position Tracks

The NMEA output from the GPSBOXKBD+ unit provides a versatile and effective method of data collection for use during surveys. It also allows the unit to be used with PC or PDA based satellite navigation programs such as GPSS. The recent introduction of Google Earth has provided a powerful tool for geographic analysis. NMEA track files can easily be converted into the *.kml files that Google Earth can read. These can then be displayed in Google Earth. The south london_track kml file example is shown below. The route followed in the track file is a mixture of suburban and urban London. If you follow the track you will see that for most of the time the data is within the 5 - 10m error range quoted in the receiver specification. Although not generally aplicable to all areas of the world as some have much lower resolution available, this is an illustration of the flexiblity of the unit.

The track below is of a bus journey through South London from Peckham bus garage to the Royal Observatory, Greenwich.
