| Blu-tack is an multi-purpose adhesive commonly sold in office supply stores. It can be used in the following manner
as a aid for the hand soldering of SMD components. This simple method allows for the perfect alignment of SMD chips,
first time, every time. |
(1)
Roughly position the chip on the board. An SO28 chip is shown in this example, but this technique can be used with
any package. |
(2)
Secure the chip to the board with two pieces of blu-tack placed against the top and bottom of the chip. The chip's
position can then be adjusted until perfect alignment between pins and pads has been achieved. |
(3)
Solder the four corner pins of the chip to the board first. The remaining pins of the chip can then be soldered
to the pads of the board. |
(4)
Finally remove the blu-tack. There are no "residues" or other marks left on the board. The blu-tack leaves
nothing behind except a perfectly aligned chip. |
